This small town is a car rental drive between Benidorm and Dénia is one of those gorgeous Costa Blanca destinations that manages to offer something to all-comers. For sun-seekers there are lovely beaches minutes away, if you're interested in the local culture then the town has a preserved historic centre, and if you want to be active then you have mountains practically on your doorstep.
No building in Mallorca, or indeed the entire Balearic Islands, is easier to recognise than the Cathedral-Basilica of Santa María de Palma, to use its full name. The cathedral, built with local sandstone, is a majestic, record-breaking structure visible from many vantage points across the city, but especially from the waterfront, where it soars above the port. It's a must for any car rental visit to the capital.
This narrow gauge railway connects Palma de Mallorca in the south with Sóller in the island's northwest, but also offers a journey back into the Belle Époque thanks to its restored wooden carriage interiors and quaint old stations. And of course, as you wind through a mountainous landscape the views are absolutely breathtaking.
