Walk along the ancient city walls
As Girona was a major city in ancient history it had an extensive defensive network and a fantastic set of city walls. Much of these walls still stand today in a fabulous condition and it is possible to walk along them and take in the cityscape of Girona. This is possibly the best way to see the city from a unique perspective – you can see the guard towers, peer over the ramparts and marvel at the Roman and Renaissance architecture.

Learn about the Jewish history of Girona in the Museum of Jewish History
Girona’s Jewish history is extensive and from the 14th century onwards, this city has played host to a major Jewish population. To learn about this history, the Museum of Jewish History is the only place to visit. Located in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, the museum is housed within a charming building and has a myriad of artefacts and exhibitions. Exhibitions include 14th century stone etchings, contemporary documents and paintings.

Partake in a little shopping down Rambla de la Llibertat
If you love shopping then Girona does not disappoint. La Rambla de la Llibertat is one of the premier high streets in the city and boasts a wide array of boutiques, shops, cafes and restaurants. Starting at the Plaça de Catalunya and stretching along the river to the Pont de Sant Agusti this tree-lined promenade is a gorgeous part of Girona. Consider ambling through the shops, enjoying a coffee at one of the cafes and maybe a bite to eat at one of the restaurants.

Drive to the Costa Blanca to relax on a secluded beach
As mentioned above, Girona is only a short distance from the coast. If you have your own hire car, you can make your way across the countryside and discover one of the many beaches and coastal towns that hug this dramatic section of the Costa Blanca. Notable towns include Palamos, Sant Feliu de Guixols, Lloret de Mar and Calella. If you enjoy driving, you would be amazed with the views of the sea. Just imagine: you, friends, the wind in your face and your car, taking in the sights and pleasures of Costa Blanca. These are some of the more popular locations, but if you are adventurous, you could simply explore the coast for yourself and see what  other hidden gems you can find!

Enjoy a boat ride on Banyoles Lake
Girona benefits from a beautiful surrounding landscape and a main attraction only 30 minutes from the city centre is Lake Banyoles.
